In 1960
I was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps, and was trained as a Para-medic with
Jungle warfare and Jump school then shipped off to Viet-Nam 1965. I was discharged
in 1966 with a medical discharge (Sec. 8) decorated with the Purple Heart medal
(Wounded in Action) and Bronze Star medal (Saving lives under fire).
From 1967 to 1970 after my discharge, I attended Ft. Lewis A&M College, Durango, Colo. I received a bachelor’s degree in engineering. I joined the electrical union (I.B.E.W.) and was a member for 24 years. During the last 10 years of the membership, I owned a fiber optics splicing business in Texas. In 1989 I was reunited with my brother who was dying from cancer, and I chose to return to South Dakota with him, to Sundance. In 1992 I met Marianne during the Sundance, we married in January 1995 and in October 1995 we moved to Denmark. In 1996, Willie Kendle the President of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe - A Sovereign Nation of the Sicangu Lakota Sioux, appointed me the Ambassador to Denmark. Since then Marianne and I have lectured and danced in over 700 schools in Denmark, Sweden and England. We perform traditional Lakota dances and explain the meaning of our dance outfits and teach people about Lakota culture, history and “Lakota Thought and Philosophy”. |
